SHEFFIELD CHOIR—GREAT SCENE
ELGAE'S "DREAM" AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, Juiy 3. The Sheffield Choir opened to-night at Christchurch with Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" to a house of three thousand five hundred, in tho King Edward Barracks. There was a slight delay in commencing, owing to the great crush of re-served-seat holders about the entrance set apart for them, but, eventually, all got in. The delay, which was less than a quarter of an hour, had no effect on the people's enthusiasm, and the Choir and Dr. Coward (conductor) came in for a great reception. The orchestra did splendid work, and the Choir gave proof that the forewords concerning it were truthful. Dr. Coward's conducting was a revelation The solo parts were taken by Miss Alice Hoely, Henry Turnpenny, and Mr Robert Charlcswortn. The booking is very heavy for to-morrow nisht's concert.
