REVISION OF FARES. By Telegraph—Press Association—OopyriEht Melbourne, July 1. Tho Tramway Fares Revision Committeo has presented its report. The recommendations include proposals that through fares up to two miles bo a penny cash, and over two miles twopence; transfers at present given with threepenny fares to bo given with twopenny fares; workmen's fares to bo a penny each journey; the time for workmen's fares to be extended to 7.15 in tho
morning. As an alternative, it is recommended that the Government purchase tho company's rights to 1916. Tho actual dividends paid by tho company on a capital of .£250,000 in twenty-four years has varied from 9.6 to 72 per cent.
There is no doubt that the company has exercised an absolutely free hand, Parliament having slept on its rights of revision.
