The steamer Spokane, with one hundred and. fifty* excursionists from Seattle to' Alaska, struck a rock in Plumpers Bay, British' Columbia, and had to bo beached. - . When run ashore,-the Spokane; which is a vessel of 2036 tons burden, was in a sinking condition. ' Two women became panic-stricken and leaped overboard and were drowned. A wireless message called the 6teamcr Admiral Sampson to the spot, and sho rescued the passengers and crew of tho Spokane. The vessel will probably bo a uital loss. One of "tho victims was Mrs. Williams, wife of a Washington millionaire, who had made a fortune in South African diamond mining.
