WE KEEP THE TROPHY. GETTING THE LAST GOAL AFTER "TIME." At Day's Bay on Saturday Wellington successfully defended (lie shield against Canterbury. Tho forwards on both sides showed very little combined play, most of them preferring solo efforts, and tlio long passes by the Wellington wings wcro usually intercepted by tho Canterbury backs, who defended well until tho last fifteen minutes. Wellington were now penalised for offside play, end Canterbury rushed play up to tho Wellington goal. From a corner Loader received, and tlio local team attacked. Salek centred, but his forwards failed to score, Bellamy securing and kicking the ball to the lino, AVollington maintained the pressure, tor some time, and Salek tried again to pierco the defence, but Sepio stopped tho shot, and lifted tho ball over the fence on to . tho beach. Play, for a time, was now in the centre of the field, and Canterbury, through the agency of Hulliprt. rushed,, the hall into tho AVellington circle, where Morpeth, in snving, gave "sticks. , Irom . a comer Hulbert sent ma good shot; but j it hit tho post. Salek and Loader hoth now showed up with good runs, but Chambers and feepifl _ managed to secure, and find tho lino. Morpeth. , in going out to meet them, left his goal clear, and Earwaker had, no trouble in • scoring another goal for his side. Wellington Awakes. Wellington, who now seemed to. realise, that they must be up and doing, attacked for some lime, but tlio forwards lest their heads, and an opportunity was, lost.
