BLOCK ON THE TRAM LINE.

FOR NEARLY AN HOUR. (Considerable inconvenience was caused to tramway travellers on Saturday afternoon by tho blocking of tho Island liny and Newtown lines for nearly an hour from about three o'clock onwards. The cause of the trouble was an Island Bay car of which one of the magnetic brakes in some way .fouled (ho special work as the car was running over tho points at tho Island Bay and Newtown junction. The brake jammed hard and fast, and a steel brace bearing the shoe had. to bo cut through before the car coiild be moved away and (ho lines cleared. Tars outward lxnind to Island Bay, Newlown, and Constable Street, and special cars to Athletic Park \\-ere all held up for a time. At one stage, about (wen(y cars stood (bus inactive. The line into, (he ci(y from Newtown remained clear. A car was run backward and forward on the Island Bay line beyond the junction while (he hold-up continued. It has not yet been ascertained how the magnetic brake upon the disabled car came to act so inconvenient a part.
