Tho banks are having to cash . large numbers of notes, owing to an impression gaining ground that they will, not bo worth their face valuo after tho end of Juno, when tho heavy tax on new issues comes into oporation. It is believed that tho rumour was started by unscrupulous parsons in tho country districts, who are buying note 3 from ignorant farmers at from fifteen to eighteen shillings each.
