ADVERTISING AUSTRALIA.
SCOTTISH COMMISSION'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrieht Melbourne, Juno 30. The Federal Ministers regard the Scottish Commissioners' report as an effectivo advertisement for Australia. They are allowing the High Commissioner in London (Sir George Reid) a free hand in regard to its distribution. THE COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Tho Scottish .agricultural Commission which paid its visit to the Commonwealth at the invitation of tho Government, recently issued its report in the form of a handy volume of 300 pages illustrated from photographs _ largely taken by members of the Commission.
In their inttxluetary remarks, the Commissioners—of whom Sjr CarlawMartin was chairman, and Sir John Sinclair vice-chairman—slate that their mission was ono of inquiry conducted in the hopo that results, when published, would make Australia better known to the people of the Homeland, and possibly remove some misconceptions as to whar life under the Sou thorn Cross means for the emigrant Every aspect of rural life is dwelt on more or less fully. Where the Commissioners have faults to find they do not hesitate to indicate the cause of complaint. Particularly valuable (ivritc-s the "Standard of Empire") is the chapter devoted to "The Intending Sottler, What He Should Do and What He May. Expect." Tho Commissioners express the view that city life in Great Britain is no f.>r success oversea. Tho report says: "No young man who is healthy and str.-iiu. who is 1 not afraid to rough it, and who is willing to learn need be afraid of farm lifo in Australia. Even the city-bred business man who is progressing slowly at Home, and who has a taslo and capacity for rural occupations, may make a good farmer, and mav not improbably, '■hanks to sound business habits, succeed better than the immigrant who has been an agriculturist all his days. Similarly, lads from tho town have a perfectly good chance of doing well if caro is taken to let theni havo a fair start."
