At tho official luncheon at the sheep show, Sir Francis Suttor referred to tho decrease in merinos which had followed on the cutting-up of land in smaller areas. Tho man on the land was now going in for crossbreds, for which ho could more readily get a market, and which paid bettor. All. over Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa crossbreds were increasing at the expense of merinos. In 1901 there were 39,999,009 merinos and 3,999,990 crossbreds in New South Wales, while now there wero 11,000,099 merinos and 5,999,000 crossbreds.
