——: 5 ——• To-day the Acting-Prime Minister will bo in Southland, tho lion. J. A. Millar, the Hon. D. Huddo, tho Hon. H. M'Kcnzie, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, and the Hon. G. ; Fowlds in Wellington, Mr. Justice Sim will leave on Monday for Nelson to conduct a sitting of the Arbitration Court. Ho expects to bo back at Wellington on Thursday. Mr. Joseph J. Walls, B.Sc, has been appointed science master to tho Wellington Technical School. Mr. Walls was a pupil and teacher of natural philosophy at the Allan Elen's School Glasgow, Ho has had practical experience in engineering. At present he is teaching science subjects at the Auckland Technical School. Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, left for I.yttclton by the Maori last evening. Dr. Finch was a passenger by. tho same vessel.
Mr. Harold Carr, who piloted tho Royal Hawaiians Concert Company throughout their Australasian tour, left for Sydney by the s.s. Ulimaroa last evening. The company leave Auckland for Honolulu on Wednesday next.
Miss Kato Foster has been appointed commercial assistant mistress at tho Wellington Technical School day classes, and Mr. Mathieson, master at tho Wellington College, has been appointed assistant instructor at tho English classes in the evenings.
Captain Lobb, marine superintendent for the Westport Coal Company, was a passenger for Lytielton by the Maor&ast evening.
Tho death occurred at Feathorston on Thursday of Mr. William Card, formerly of Groymouth. Deceased, who was 80 years of age, was a brother of Mr. John Card, a former proprietor of tho Star and Garter Hold, and Mr. J. W. Card, solicitor, of Feathcrston. Fifteen to twenty years ago ho camo to tho North Island, and, for tho greater portion of the time, resided in Foatherston.
Mr. Morris Upton is at present on a business visit to Wellington. Mr. Upton is a travelling representative of the Woods Great Peppermint Cure Co., Ltd., and has been associated with tho company practically from its formation some 17 years ago. During that time ho has participated in the extension, of tho company's business in South Africa aud Australia, as well as in New Zealand. Next week Mr. Upton expects to leave on a tour of the South Island.
