Mr William Aitchison, timber merchant, I'atea, whose business was established 33 years ago in the town by Messrs. York and Cornford, inserts an advertisement in this issue. Mr. Aitchison keeps a fine stock of timber and joinery, and is ablo to supply orders to all parts ot the South Taranaki district. Mr. Ernest Clare, tailor, Eltham, whoso striking advertisement appears in another column, commenced business in the town about two years ago. Previous to that time Mr. Clare had had experience in the trado in leading Sydney and Wellington firms, and by careful attention to clients, he has- thoroughly established a fine business in Taranaki. Large stocks of tweeds of tho most durable quality are always on hand, and the cutting is under the personal supervision of Mr. Clare himself.

MR. H. G. CARMAN'S BUILDINGS. One of the most handsome of the recent building additions .-to Eltham is that at present occupied by Sir. H. G. Carman, bookseller and stationer. The structure is of two stories, ferro-concrete, with concrete floor*. Its size is 50 feet by 80 feet, and it'stands on a most commanding town business position, one frontage facing the Main Street, the other Stanncrs Street, a thoroughfare on which is built the new Town Hall, the new Municipal Offices, and the handsome white-painted Eltham Club. Mr. Carman's building .is divided into two shops, with a concrete partition, while upstairs there are a number of offices in use by professional men. Mr. Carman's shop is probably the most attractive of its kind in Taranaki. It is large, well-lighted, and well-filled with an assortment of books stationery, .fancy goods, toys, phonographs, and glassware. The firm controls a large newspaper business, and the town edition of the Eltham "Argus" is also published by Mr. Carman. The glass verandah arcade outside the building is a' piece of artistic architecture. Mr. Casnan has been in business in Eltham since 1902. Ho started in a small way, enlarged his shop, shifted into larger premises, and finally into his present 'premises. Previously to 1902 he -was associated with the firm of Messrs. Lyon and Blair, and later with Messrs. WhitcomVe and Tombs, both of Wellington. He has taken an active part in the progress of the town; has occupied many public positions, including that of town councillor. A photographic reproduction of Mr. Carman's business premises appears in this issue.
