THE HAWERA DAIRY COMPANY.

A flourishing Dairy Company in the immediate region of Hawera itself is tho Hawera Dairy Company with five factories, namely. Glover Eoad, 1 vats; Tnkaora, 4 vats; Tawkiti, 5 vats; 'Wliaroroa, G vats; and Fraser Eoad, i vats, a total of 23 vats. With the exception of Fra«er Road, which is between six and seven miles away, al! these factories are between four miles of the town. There are 122 suppliers, and as in other instances in south Taranaki, the process of further subdivision of the lands is likely to increase that number next season. In one factorv alone,..that, of Glover Eoad, situated two miles out of Hawera, the four vats are to be increased to ten next main reason being subdivision of dairy farms. The Hawera Company follows "considerably, on the enterprising lines adopted by its big brother, Kaupokonui. It lias shares in tho_ AVcst Coast Eefrigerating Compar-.r. the Kgmont liox Company, and the Taranaki Producers' Freezing Company, and the "West Coast Company's steamer account. Last year the company turned out close on HOD tons of cheese, and 1G tons of butter and have a turnover of something like ,£56,000. The biggest branch factory is that of Whareroa; with an output of 257 tons, then follow Tawhiti (235 tons), Glover Eoad f2OO tons), Tokaora (165 tons), and Fraser Eoad (15G tons).

Tho Hawera Company was the first to .'tart the system of whey pasteurisation, the installation having been mado about two years aco. It is of interest to farmers generally to note that in the course of a comparatively short period the mechanical arrangements of whey and skim milk pasteurisation will be considerably changed. The directors of the company are Messrs. H. Spratt (chairman), \V. Baker, J. E. Corrigan. B. Duffel], H. E. Death, G. Jarvis, and T. Hurlev. Mr. .T. Tunon is secretary, and Mr. 'Dunlon manager.
