The whole of (he seats in the large hall on the show-1 grounds were taken up, and many people ' had to he content .with what tlu'v could I hear from outside, even standing room inside being unavailable. The first part of the programme included Bach's "Praise Ye Hip Lord," unaccompanied, and the old favourites, "And the Glory of the Lord" and llio "Hallelujah Chorus," with superb orchestral . accompaniments, all being magnificently rendered. The second part was confined to secular items and was a revelation in choral music. Mr. Walter Smith, manager of (he Working Men's Club, has had to enter a private hospital to undergo a critical operation. Mr. Smith's many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. .1. U. Whitehead, organist at the local Congregational Church wis entertained at a social gathering in the church last night, and presented with a gold sovereign case and gentleman's companion in leather. Tlie presentation was niado by the Rev. D. ilird. At the ralmcrston North golf links today a match was played between teams of Napier and Palnierston ladies, the following being the scores, the names of local players being Riven first:—Miss Sybil Abraham, 0; Miss D.
