SHEEPOWNERS' UNION.

THE WORK ACCOMPLISHED. The annual meeting of the liawke's Buy Union was held at llnstings. Jh'. A..H. Hiissdl presided. A balance-sheet ami a report, which covered the period from (ho ditto of the inception of the union iiuXovembcr, 1!)!)!), fo Miy 81 last, iverc presented. , In (lie report it was stated: "The work accomplishedl has amply proved the opinion ot the movers in iis formation as to the desirability of forming such a union, and of its affiliation, with the New Zealand Sheepowners' and farmers' federation. L'j) to date 1!)8 members,' owning very nearly one and a half million sheep, have, joined tho union and paid their subscriptions. Although these members fairly represent every portion of the Hawke's Bay district, and every class of sheepownei% it in felt that there are many more who should assist the work of the union by joining as members, and thus strengthen it both numerically and financially. The most important work dealt with by the committee has been the shearers' dispute and the shed hands' dispute. It is impossible (says the report) for an award to be made, that will meet the varying necessities of all parties, but taking the • awards all round we must consider them satisfactory. Members are recommended to carry out closely all the clauses in the awarris, and so avoid all possible cause for friction either ?rith the Shearers' Union or with tho Labour Department."

In moving tho adoption of the report, the president remarked that the combination of this with other similar unions, covering practically tiic whole, Dominion, into a Sheepowners' Federation, had enabled shee.powuers to secure Dominion awards for shearers and shed hands, which it is hoped will prove satisfactory to both sides nntl enable Iho work to be carried out without friction.
