A SHOWGROUND PROBLEM.

DISCUSSED IN HAWIvE'S BAY. The question of new show grounds for. the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society camo up. at the annual meeting of the society. The president (Ifr. A. H. KusSell) explained, reports the "Herald," I hat at a committee meeting the.question of providing a new show' ground had been gone into, . and referred to this meeting. Owing to x tlie congested state of tho present ground on show days' it was thought that somo provision should be mado to accommodate the increasing population. It would not, probably, be necessary to immediately use'a new ground. Ho thought that, a wealthy society liko theirs could afford to raise, say, J2OOO, for the purpose suggested. Ho moved "That it be a recommendation to the incoming committee .to purchase a new show grouud if.Uiey were able to do so on favourable terms, and 'are able to make- the necessary financial arrangements." ■Mr. J. H. Coleman-seconded the motion. He was quite, sure that in ft few years time tho present ground would become too valuable to use either as a showground or ; a racecourse. Mr. G. I'. Donnelly said he failed to see why'they should purchase a new ground. It .would, mean getting rid of the racecourse, and that would mean that Hast.inifs would bo deprived of a very valuable recreation ground. Mr. D. D. Jl'Lcan said that if. it weie possible to enlarge tho present ground it would be hard to beat. He suggested that a committee should view tliß ground and see whether it could not b'j. enlarged.. Mr. P. W. Williams said 'the. society required -better accommodation on the ground for stock, and at present they could not use the ground »as tlioy • wished, because it would interfere with it for racing pur- . poseS. Tho chairman said, lie had drafted the following amended resolution :VThat in view of future developments it bo a recommendation that the committee fully consider the question of ' purchasing a new ground, or, secondly, such other alternative; as would meet , future requirements." Mr. Coleman suggested that any recommendation from tho committco should be referred to a general meeting. The chairman added Mr. Coleman's suggestion, and tho amended resolution was
