TAINUI ARRIVES HOME; ■ Advice received by the local aprcnts of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company intimates that R.M.H. Tainui, which left Wellington for London, via way ports, on tho mornine of February. May 19—one day late—arrived at Plymouth on Wednesday evening—one day early. THE TONGARIRO. Upon inquiries being made at tho local oflice of the New Zealand Rhipninc Co. yesterday, it was found that R..M.S. Tongariro, from London, reached Hobart a.t 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Tho time of the vessel's departure for Wellington was not known, but it was anticipated that she would not arrive here until Monday evening, or early on Tuesday morning. OPAWA DISABLED. Whilst crossing the Wairau Bar on Wednesday raornine tho small steamer Opawa met with a mishap. A stone became jammed between ■ a propeller blade and the rudder, so Captain Nicholas was compelled to anchor outside. Up till a. lato hour yesterday the vessel was still at an anchorage, but it was hoped that the obstruction .would be removed hy last night. If this cannot be accomplished it is probablo that the Opawa will bo towed to Port Underwood, and placed on the "hard" beforo coming to Wellington, PARTHENIA AItRIVES. Tho U.S. and A. Line's steamer Parthcnia, which ieft Auckland on Tuesday, in continuation of her voyage, from New York to Wellington, arrived is the stream at 8.15 o'clock last nirtht. This morning she is to berth at the Taranaki Street Wharf, whore 6ho is to discharge 700 tons of Wellington cargo. On Saturday she fs expected to get away for Lyttclton and Duncdii., and, upon completion of discharge at the latter port, she proceeds to Sydney to load wheat for the Continent. VANCOUVER VIA AUCKLAND. The Marama, now on her way from Vancouver to Sydney, and due at Sydney on July 10, is to have- her cot.l storage extended, preparatory to starting the now service to Vancouver, via New Zealand. She will leave Sydney on July 31 for Auckland, and will leave Auckland on August 4 for Suva, Honolulu, Victoria (8.C.), and Vancouver. The Marama will also bo the first steamer of the new service inwards} , being timed to leave Vancouver on Wednesday, September 6, and to arrive at Auckland on Tuesday, September 25, and at Sydney on Saturday, September 30. PUTIKI'S TRYING EXPERIENCE. On Monday afternoon the small epastal steamer Putiki, well known here, arrived at Greymouth from Timaru after a trying experience. Sho arrived off Wcstport on Tuesday of last week, and remained off the bar until Thursday, unable to enter owing to tho state of the weather. Her coal had by this time been reduced to 21 tons, and in order to get back to Nelson all the wooden fittings and tho wood off tho after hatch had to be burned for fuel.
