NOTES ON THE RACING. ; ■ (By TclcEraDU.-BDeclal CnrrcsDondenU'" Napier, Juno 29. The weather was fine at Napier to-day, but tho track was a eea of mud. After the uncomfortable conditions of yestorday ' it was uot surprising that (he attendance fell off considerably. With tho exception of the Steeplechase and Open Hurdlo Race, tho fields wcro large, and somo interesting racing was witnessed. Projectile,.who was unfortunate to miss the big t.ciit yesterday, 6cored comfortably to-day, and ttoanga scored an easy win' in the Steeples, but tho way was paved for tho Auckland gelding by the remainder of the starters coming to grief. Three first favourites scored to-day, but tho' meeting, taken on. tho whole, was a bad ono for backers. Tho whole of tho acceptors.went to th» post in tho. opening event, and Moutoa Girl, who was making her first appearance at the meeting, was' a staunch favourite. Pcrcoler was in charge as soon as tho field stepped out, nnd South-East acCDinpanied him across tho bottom, At tho turn this pair nnd Loch Jfabin, who had joined them, ran very wide, "and Moutoa Girl slipped up on tho fence. Tho last-named gained several lengths, but had to bo uard ridden to beat. Golden Age, who to-day, showed a remarkable improvement cm yesterday's form. Amaru, who was well backed, again ran very badly, and is far from being at her best. Four horses wcro.very evenly backed in tho Hack Hurdles, viz., Bollin, Euroco, ■ Tina Toa, and Donzel. This field was bunched passing Hi. stand; where Boyno Water fell and nearly brought down Bolljn, who lost a lot of ground. Across tho' top, Euroco and Wirral were at tho head of affairs,' with Bolliii hopelessly in the rear. Down tho back Polyniccs took charge, but, at tho bend, Donzel ran up to him. Polyuicos, stutibling, lost a lot of ground at tho last fi'nce, which Tina. Toa took well. The last-named had no chance with Donzel, who ran in a very easy winner. Projectilo was again made favourite in the big race to-day, and he scored a comfortable win. Ho was first off from a good start, but was soon supplemented by San Pluie, ivhp led till well down, tho straight. Then tho favourite asserted himself, and won comfortably. Humminc Bird was handy tho whole way, and was cleso up third, just behind San Pluio, who stopped badly over tho final furlong. Separator was fourth, and Sir Frisco tailed off last. . Lull and Xavier were withdrawn irom tho Park Steeples, leaving four runners to go to the post. At tho brush opposite tho Leger, Sardonyx fell. Tho other trio kept together for tho next round, with Hoanga pulling hard in the lead. At the six-furlong post Rosegrove fell, and tho next fence brought down Lingerer. Hoauga now had a big lead, and he won ,bj- over half a mile. Both tho other -horses wcro remounted and completed tho courso for tho place money.
Scots Fusilier made a runaway raco of thoi-Ladies' Bracelet, in which he took charge, at tho start and won in a common canter. To Whetu, tho first day's winner, ran badly. Fusilea showed up best of tho remainder, but nothing had a chance with the winner.
"Windage, who had scored comfortably on tho first day, was made a hot favourite iu the Open Hurdles, but bo had to striko his colours to D'Nil, who was a fresh horse, and locked all tho better fAV his races at Hastings. Mr. Speed's gelding was in , charge from the word "Gp," and won comfortably by thrco lengths. Tina Toa, who was saddled up again, ran third.
Otahu and Fuss were almost evenly backed in tho concludine event, and they ran first and' second. The Foxton liorso won very comfortably from Fuss, who was five lengths in front of Stourton. Composed, who got away badly, was fourth. V.R.C. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. ACCEPTANCES FOE THE HURDLES. lJy Tclficmob —l J rcss Association —Couyrielil (Kec. June 29, 0.40 p.m.) Melbourne, Juno 29.
