HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of (ho Harbour Board was held last night. Present: Messrs. R. Fletcher (chairman), J. G. Harkness, C. W. Jones, It. C. Renner, A. 11. Hindmarsh, C. K. Daniell, .T. M'Farlane, J. Cobbo, J. W. M'Eivan, H. C. Tewsley, J. Trevor, nnd J. 13. Fitzgerald. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Cohen. FINANCE. The following crcdit balances at tho bank were reported:—Current account, ,£20,787 18s. 3d.; imprest account, JC2GB Ills. 10d.; on fixed deposit, .£70,000. Payments as follow were authorised:— Insurance premiums, election expenses, accounts and wages, .£11,528 lis. 9d.j progress payments on contracts; ,£1789 lGs. 2d.; salaries for June, .£783 lis. 9d,; total, .£17,102 2s. Bd. September (i was fixed as the, day for the drawing of twenty of tho Ward 6 debentures (.£850,000 consolidated loan), to bo redeemed on February 28, 1812, and Mr. T. S. Weston was appointed a notary public to be present at tho drawing. The secretary was authorised to issuo tho necessary advertisements.' WORKS. The chairman reported that tho contract for sea wall and earthworks at Miramar liad been completed.' Tho engineer's plans forwidening Tarauaki Street Wharf and connecting the wharf \vith Jcrvois Quay breastwork, wora approved, and it was resolved to call for tenders. 1 The following recommendations of the Wharves and Accounts Committeo tvera adopted To enter into an agreement witli tho City Corporation for tho extension of tho city drainage system to tho board's reclamation nt Waterloo Quay, tho work to be carried out by the corporation at tho board's expense. , That tho sum of JC2S bo deducted from moneys due to tho contractor for tho noncompletion of Contract No. 152 by, contract date. That the sum of ,£5 be deducted from tho contractor as liquidated damages for tho non-completion of Contract No. 157 by contract date. That the engineer's plans for constructing 112 workers' lockers in X store building, at an estimated cost of .£lO5, be approved, and the work put in hand forthwith. HARBOURS CONFERENCE. Tho Harbours' Association wrote inquiring whether tho lward was of opinion that a harbours conference should lie held during the 1911 session of Parliament. The chairman favoured holding the conference, especially in view of tho desirableness of amending tho Harbourj Act, 1010. Tho board resolved accordingly'. RULED OUT. Mr. Hindmarsh wished to move, pursuant to notice: "That tho Harbour Board undertake the loading and unloading of ships trading to Wellington, and generally to jierform all work required ' to be done at and on tho Wellington wharves except cartage." The chairman, however, ruled this out of order.
