It has been generally understood that attendance at drill by cadets enrolled under military service conditions would be . absolutely, coropulscrv. It has been brought under the notice, of the managers of the Dunedin. Technical School that pupils attending that school under the compulsory clauses of last year's amending Act are in a position that ho excuse, not even attendance at compulsory drill, will be regarded as legitimate excuse for absence from continuation olasses. It seems that compulsory education provisions and compulsory military service provisions both inflict penalties for non-attendance. The managers of .the Technical School are in communication with the Defence Department, and are also approaching the Minister for ■Education on the matter.
