TAKAPUNA S.S. SIGHTED ON SLIP.
DAMAGE CONSIDERABLE. Yesterday morning the Union Company's damaged steamer Takapuna was taken up on the Wellington Patent Slip for the purpose of having the damaged portion of her hull frighted. It will be remembered that the vessel sustained injury whilst entering the Bul'.er River on Thursday last. The full extent of the damnge could not bo ascertained until yesterday, when it was found that her stern, post was lx?nt, but can be, straightened, and the rudder stock broken. The rudder itself was bent at the top where it enters the aperture, and the lifter-frame wps'beht two feet out of line. Tfro plate's'will have 1 to be removed from the hull and renewed, and the propeller requires to be, fitted with ' three new blades. It is stated that it will take some, weeks to effect repairs, and the company lias not yet decided whether these will bo carried out here or at Dunedin. •
