ASSESSMENT COURT.

A "sitting of the Assessment Court was held in AVellington yesterday, Dr. A. M'Aythur, S.M., presiding, and Messrs. G. Cudby aud Lynch sitting as assessors. In tho following cas«s, whero objections had been lodged, no appearance was made, and'the assessments were upheld:— Dr. F. W. Mackenzie, Rona Bay property, .£'2760; C. H. Osmond, Miramar property, .E2327. Several owners made formal appearance, and stated that they would avail themselves of Section 31 of the Valuation of Land Act, aud on the Government to purchase or reduce to owner's valuation. They were as follow: —Rev. Mr. Van Stavercn, Rona Bay property, ,£-151; "William AVatson, Sc'atoun property, .£3131; Wellington Steam Ferry Co., Day's Bay Pavilion and background, containing 63!) acres 2 Toods 30 perches in the Wai° nui-o-mata Riding, .£35,190. The only contested case was that in which H. D. Bell objected to tho total valuation (J21089) for numerous sections in Lowry Bay, and considered <£810 a fail' valuation. Mr. H. E. Evans appeared in support of tho objection, aud Mr. F. N. Martin represented tho Department. Messrs.. Bruce and Gellatly were called to give evidence in support of tho objections. The assessment was, however, upheld.
