SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
4 AENST 'AND PEARCE STEADILY TRAINING. By Teleerapb—Press Association—Oopyrlehl (Rec. June 27, 10.10 p.m.) Sydney, June 27. R. Arnst, the world's sculling champion, and Harry Pearce, the challenger, are both steadily training for the championship race on July 29. Arnst has now mado Mortlako his headquarters, and has with him Alf. Felton as pacemaker and Harry Nathan as trainer. "Rigger," in the Sydnev "Telegraph," states:—"Arnst is still doing heavy work. He gees out every morning and afternoon, besides doing a good deal of land work. Ho has got the extra two weeks 110 wants in which to train, aud, consequently, will not have to do such strenuous training as ho would have to do had tho race been two weeks earlier. Tho confident feeling of tho Pearce party does not in any way alarm him or even ruffle his thoughts. The only thing that concerned him was the possibility of a return to his recent illness, and now that he has tested himself in every way, and found that there is 110 likelihood of that interfering with him, he is as confident that he can beat Pearce as ever he was. In fact, ho does not consider tho possibility of defeat at all. Tho only thing he bothers himself about is getting into his best condition. Once in that state he has little fear of anything else. He told ine yesterday that ho was feeling tip-top, and as strong as ever. He scaled 13st. 101b. then, but he would go to the post at about 13st. 'Hb. This leaves about six pounds that lie has yet to remove, and as 110 can do it gradually, there is every reason to believe that he will bo seen at. his best on July 29." Pearce is to be trained by Peter kelson, Arnst's old trainer, and will have as a pacemaker his brother, Syd. Syd. has acted in this capacity , to Harry in all his recent races, aud in every case he has gono to the post ns well as he could be. It might be mentioned here that Nelson trained Arnst when he met Pearco before, and also went to New Zealand with him, and trained him when ho Tiiet and defeated Webb for the championship of tho world. As a trainer, Nelson wants little introduction to the sporting public. as he has been a trainer of leading athletes for a long time. It is sufficient to sav that, barrinrr accidents. Pearce should tro nut nn the dav of the rem thoroiHitv fit. Penro" has flip extra. Assistance of Svd. Kemn now. Whim it is sfa'e/l th.it he orlv stales 13 stone now. with several weeks to an before the race, it will be soon that he mncf hn=t<>n slowly so as not fn overdo it. He desires to row at 12st. 101b. on July 29.
