FOREIGN MEAT MARKETS.
THE POSITION AS TO FRANCE. In (lie March issifo of tho "Agricultural Journal" there appeared a communication from the High Commissioner, Sir W. Hall-.Tor.es, referring to the importation of froze.i nieafc into Franco, in which tho following statement appeared: "Mr. Crabb pointed out that information previously obtained stated that meat imported into Fran.'c must l;r> in cntiri , carcasses, whereas quarters arc now specified. Inquiry on the point confirmed the latior reading." Tho High Commissiorer communicated further in regard to the matter with the. firitis'i Consulate in Paris, and ho has since received a reply that "the carcasses of mutton, imported into France must he en iire." On further inquiry, however, it. was stated that the regulation refened to by the Paris British Chamber of Commerce was correctly quoted, but it refers to tlio Damage of the carcasses through the French Customs, and requires that they lie cut into quarters for that, purpose. The bodies of the she?p, however, may lie landed in an entire, state from (he ship, an:l ho deposited in a bonded wnrohoi.se, ivli«re they would be kent until required to be passed through the Dauane. Such warehouses would, of course, need to be accepted by the local sanitary authority as fit for such use before being utilised for the purpose.
