AS A PROTEST. DISSATISFIED FIRE BRIGADES. iij Telcsrapli—Press Association—Ooorrlent Sydney, June 24. Members ,of country fire brigades threaten to strike in a body as a protest against the want of proper equipment and the non-payment of remuneration. Numbers' have already resigned. The secretary of tho Firo Brigades Board declares that in more than fifty per cent, of the country towns tho brigades, with present appliances, are absolutely unable to cope with any serious emergency. The present situation is a menace to life and property. There is a pressing need for the 'Government to take over and place the brigades on a proper footing.
