The Ron. Sir James Carroll went south last evening.

His Honour Sir Joshua Williams will arrive here from the south to-morrow morning, and will preside at tho Supreme Court on Monday. His Honour Sir. Justico Chapman will leave for Napier today.

Yosle-rday morning Professor J. W. I Snhnond, Solicitor-General of New Zealand, received word that he had been awarded tho Ames prize in connection with tho Harvard University, Massachusetts, U.S.A. The award is for a meritorious book or essay on some legal •subject. Thero have been only two awards—one in 191)2 to J. H. Wigmore, Professor of the Law of Evidence in tho I,aw School of tho North-Western University, U.S.A., and the other in 190G, to l'\ W." Maitlaml, LL.D., Professor of Law to the University of Cambridge. Professor Salmond has been singled out for the honour for his treatise on tho law of torts, the first edition of which was published in 1907. The award carries with it a bronze, medal and the sum of 400 dollars.

Mr. Paul M. Hansen is gazetted ViceConsul for Denmark at Auckland.

Mr. Joseph Dawson has been appointed a member of the Wellington Land Board.

The Government has appointed Mr. Arthur Sawyer a member of the Gisborne Harbour Board.

Mr. Lionel Ley, of 61 Carey Street, Lincoln's Inn, Loudon, has been appointed a commissioner of the Supremo Court of Now Zealand.
