(By TclcEranh— Special Correspondent.! Hastings, Juno 22. t For the concluding day ot the Hawke's Bay winter meeting the racing was good. There was only one untoward incident, and that was when Sunray, favourite in the Hack Steeplechase, took no part in the race. Thero was a false start, and Flynn in checking Sunrny, pulled him up too short with tho result tnat ho ricked himself aud came back to tho paddock decidedly lame. The stewards inquired into the matter, lbut after hearing the evidenco of the rider, Trainer J. Russell, and tho starter, it was decided to take uu action. During the day tho riders all wore, banks of red, white, and blue on their arms. Stourtan changed-hands just before the start' of the Hack Race and will in future race in the colours of Mr. Lan Simpson. . . . .. The whole of the acceptors went to the post in the Hack Hurdles aud several of them were -well supported. In the run to the first fence Euroca got a break of several lengths and led past , the stand at a- clipping pace. At the. next fence he jumped the rails and landed on tne inside track. This left Espartero and Don--7,el in charge from Dnil and Polynices. The bracelet winner (Espartero) mado a faulty jump at the second fence from home, but though Donzel again got clear away Espartero easily gathered him up and jumping the last fence on terms he won full of running. Cairnbrogic fell al the first fence. The Hack Steeples was again responsible for a chapter of accidents. Prior to the start the favourite, Sunray, ricked himself, was brought back to the paddock, and took no part in the race. Sardonyx look tho lead and led to the double, where he ran off and was followed by Don Carlos and Kohupaliki, while Wnnstcad fell. This left Rosegrove with a strong lead from Castle Canler, and Wirral. These positions were maintained throughout." Sardonyx and Don Carlos were ■T»ain sent after the leaders, but. the former again refused nnd Don Carlos was pulled up. Kohupatiki completed the course, but did not jump the last two fences. The stewards met after tho race, but took no action. Whakaweira, Mnrton. Mount Cook, and Dnil were withdrawn from the Hawke's Bay Hurdles. Centaur was made favourite. After one false start- the field was sent off in a good line. Continuance and To Whelu immediately set out to force the pace, and at the first half-mile they were ten lengths out from the field. Passing the stand the leaders were steadied, but not displaced. Continuance, who was ridden by his trainer, G. Jones, was jumping perfectly, and in addition had l<lo much pace for the. others, and over the last mile hn had matters all his own way. Ho won in- a common cantor, and is very well. Centaur was just clear of Windage, who ran a Rood race, nnd then ca.me Passive and To Wliotii. • The laller stopped badly over the last quarter, but Passive was a bit unlucky, (hough s-he had no chance with the winner. Rauparo fell at tho bottom of (he straight tho first time, and Lcolantcr came down at the fence opposite the stand.

There were no scratching; in the Ladie*' Necklace, l'ohutu iintl Monsieur Soult carrying nioft money. The start was spoilt; by Golden Water carrying away Hie tapes. He led to the six furlongs pcpF, where he was steadied, and Hurton carrier, on Ilio running. At this point Monsieur Soult met with some interference, and Pohutii, who was last, was taken up on the outside. AI the half-mile lie was in charge, lie lcokert to be winning comfortably at the turn, but Hilarian and Golden "Water both finished strongly, and Pohutii, tirinj? badly, could only finish third. Pohutu may have been unlucky to lose, but on the other hand it limit be remembsred that he has been up no time, and with such a big weight it was only to be expected that ho would tire.

There were only four runners in the Juno Steeples, but it was a fine race between Sir Lethe and Lull. The former gavo his usual finished exhibition of fencing, but Lull had too much pace for him over the final pinch. Winiata jumped very badly in the early part of the race, ami seemed to be feeling the effects of his fall yesterday. Starlight showed plenty of pace and jumped well, but lie faikd to stay, and was a long way back at the finish.

Gold Circle and Composed were the best backed of the nine runners in the Raukawa Hack Handicap. Stonrton jumped off first, and led from Gold Circlo till the railway bend, where the big chestnut forged to the front. A furlong from homo he was being hard ridden, but at the huish he stayed on tho best and won easily. Composed got .off badly, and though he made up a rot of. ground he faded at the finish and could only finish fifth. Moutoa Girl was a head in front of Otahu. Hatana was fourth. Tho result of tho last race was a foregone, conclusion for Bliss, who was most unlucky iu running on the first day. This time she jumped out well, and after allowing Axis to keep her company down the back she came away across the bottr.ra and won by fully ten lengths. Cork was well clear of the others.
