A LOCAL INVENTION.

THE "A. AV. REID" MILKINGMACHINE. Tn' addition to the advantages which are claimed for-this machine, it has to recommend it the fact that it is a local invention. The "A. "AY; Reid" is the outcome of practical experience gained by the inventor, after whom it is named, over a long period in fitting up machines in tho 'l'aranaki district. YVhile engaged in this work lie was able to observe .the work of the various machines when put to the practical test, and to note their weak points. Mr. Reid has been in the unique position of a milking-machine expert with a large dairy herd of his own. and has thus had ample opportunity of putting his ideas to a practical test, ne claims to have' produced a milker which lias : no superior in points of , simplicity, efficiency, a.nd economy. Special importance is "attached to the pulsator, which is automatic, and designed to do tho work ' quickly and effectively. The "Reid"' pulsator is , the acme of simplicity,' apd. is. not; attached to any mechanical contrivance. It is fitted to -the pipe-line, and can bo placed at any distance that may be desired from tho engine and milking-machine. There are no springs, leatherj, or rubbers in the pulsator—simply t\ro moving parts, which do their work perfectly.- A slight :turn' of a small screw, is all that is necessary to'set the pulsator to any dosirod number of strokes to the minute. The inventor claims special advantages for the le.itcups also. The intlator is moulded in such a manner as . to causo it . to collapse at the top first, thus assisting in the most natural manner the. downward flow of the milk.
