, TEA AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE. His Excellency tho Governor has in« vited the members of the Sheffield Choir to lake tea at Government House on Snturday afternoon, July 1. In order that, the choir may accept Lord Islington's kind invitation tho malir.ee concert (Festival of Empire programme) will commence at 2 p.lll. 'instead, of 2.30 p.m., which will, enable the members of the choir to reach' Govflrjjineiit'tHoiise, at' 4.30' p.m. His Excellency hhs invited Drs. Harriss and Cow. ard to bo his guests whilst, in Wellington, Tho public can only have a faint idea, of tho work attendant upbn the visit of . the Sheffield Choir under the hurried conditions in which this body of 200 singers is travelling. The choir is t'o arrive hero on Thursday evening by special (rain from Auckland. This train will travel behind the Main Trunk Express and will arrive about 5.50 p.m. By that time it will bo dark. They then and there have to bo drafted off to the homes of tho various people whoso guests they arc to be during the three days they aro in Wellington. After this long journey tho lorkshire singers have to hurry to'their hosts' homes, eat' a snack, dress at onco and hurry off lo (lie Town Hall, this in itself will be a feat for some of them who aro quartered at Wadestown, Karori, and the nethermost end of Newtown. On Friday they aro to dash up to l'almcrston North by the early (rain, give a conccrt (which is to commence at noon), and entrain again immediately afterwards for Wellington. On this occasion tho choir will not have an opportunity of seeking the seclusion that their teniporary homes grant, as they will just have time to change their clothes, have tea in the Concert Chamber (arrangements for which are now being made), and (hen file into the big Town Hall for the concert. On Saturday they will still be on tho rush. They are to give a matinco conccrt at 2 p.m., take tea with his Excellency. tho Governor at 5 p.m., sing again that evening at 8 p.m., and leavo for Christchurch at U p.m. There will be a number of local conductors and ol'ganists associated with tho Sheffield Choir in Wellington. For instance, at the second concert (to bo given 011 Friday evening) "Pan" will bo conducted by Dr. Charles Harriss, the Bach chorale "Sing Ye to tho Lord,", by Dr. Cowardi tho epilogue from "The Golden Legend," by Mr. Robert Parker; and "Blest Pair of Syrens" (Parry), by Mr., Maughan Baniolt. Tho organist for "The Dream of Geronlius" will bo Mr. Maughan Barnotl, for "liiest. Pair of Syrens," Mr. Lawrenco Walkins; for "Elijah," Mr. llobert Parker; and for tho Empire Concert, (on Saturday afternoon), Mr. Horaco Hunt.
