ENTERTAINMENTS.
OPERA HOUSE. Another large and outhic audience witnessed (lie fiflli performance of "Lucky Durham" at the Opera Housf 1 last evening, and Mr. 11. I!, Roberts anil Miss Beatrice Way were called before the curtain. To-night's performance is lu be the last, and will be under the patronage of the members of the New Zealand University football team. lln Friday night, for the first time in A\ellington, the company will produce a fournet play by Edward I'eple (author of "The Prince Chap") entitled "Eight is Might," a virile play of absorbing interest. Mr. H. P. Roberts and Miss Day liavo received excellent notices from both the Australian and New Zealand press. THEATRE ROYAI,. Harris anil Vernon, the American dancers, who proved such favourites when they first appeared at the Theatre, Royal a couple of months ago, commenced a short return season at this theatre last night, and were received with great enthusiasm by the large audience. Miss Vernon had to respond to numerous recalls for her clever dancing, while llr. Harris's stuttering song and his eccentric dance went bigger than ever. The remainder of the programme is well balanced, and includes items contributed by Jliss Lucy Lavinia, Miss Ettle Williams, Little 'Willie, Mr. Geo. Jones, and others. The same bill will be submitted this evening. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. An attractive programme is being enjoyed by very large audiencc.s at His Majestv's Theatre this week. The pictures include "A Tale of Two Cities," a pictorial adaptation of Dickens's famous story; "The Mission Carrier," a Mexican tale of love and jealousy, and "The Lonedale Operator," a story of a girl's bravery. Such a programme cannot fail to find favour with picture lovers. . THE ICINGS THEATRE. The fact of two star films such as "A Tale of Two Cities" ami "Henry VIII" .being included in the programme at. the King's Theatre is responsible for very largo attendances at this picture the'atro during the week. The programme also includes: "The. I'atho Gazette," "Tidying-up Paris," and "Glimpses of Burmese Life." THE NEW THEATRE. Attendances are still large at The New Theatre, where an excellent programme of pictures is being screened. Among the best of these are "Clothes Make the linn," "Early Settlers," "A Bachelor's Old Maid,"" and "Midnight Disturbances." Holiday-makers should note that the theatre will be open nil day to-day, and a special holiday programme will be presented. . To-morrow another change will take place. SKATING RINK.
Merry and bright is the scene presented at Fullers' Popular Olympia Kink each evening, as the skaters glide round the polished floor of the rink, keeping time to the music provided by the Oiympia Band. A splendid programme is in preparation for the forthcoming carnival, which lakes place on July 12. The hockey match Ilutt v. Olympia last night resulted in a win for Olympia, the scores being 6 goals to 1. EEMINGTON TYPEWRITING COMPETITIONS. The . Remington Typewriting .Company is promoting a competition lor.Jtemiugton operators. The' test will comprise all classes of work . which operators use in their daily avocation. Typing from dictation will be at the rate of GO to SO words per minute, for ' three minutes; straight copy, .t-sn minutes; figure work, twelve minutes; and corrected copy, eight minutes. Two hundred marls will be allotted for c-ach. paper. To make the competition attractive, the Remington Company intends presenting the winner of the competition with a first-class return ticket to Sydney. The "second prize will be a first-class railway tourist ticket for. one month over the New Zealand railwaysNorth Island. The competition is specially promoted for the purpose of increasing the standard of efficiency among operators, and (o -oncourage a better standard of accuracy. Applications to sit for the test must be made on or before June 30. Full particulars can be obtained on inquiry at. the company's offices, l3randon Street. THE ARTS ' CLUB. The Arts Club are not holding an evening to-night on account of various other entertainments. In response to numerous requests, the club are arranging an opportunity for the publid to see the exhibition of photographs. The members of Clarke and Mcynell's "Arcadians" Company arrived from Sydney by the Moana yesterday. They are through-passengers to Dnnediii. The Central Photo Stores, Main Street, Palmerston North, invito visitors to Palmerston North to inspect their up-to-date stock of hand and stand cameras and photographic materials. The firm's illustrated catalogue is obtainable on application.

One of the prettiest exhibits in the Coronation Industrial Exhibition is undoubtedly Mr. F. W. Monthey's fancy shell work exhibit. Here can bo seen a handsome case of shell specimens. Mr Monthey has refused over a hundred pounds for-this case. There are various designs in steel:, and, as tho stulT is being marie upon tho premises, designs to suit customers can be arranged. Besides fliis lovely sliellwork there aro some very fine specimens of kauri gum. The exhibit is situated in "U" Shed, opposite Messrs. Gurncy Bros.' exhibit.
