Ilis Excellency the Governor came down from l'almerston North yesterday in order to take part in the Coronation celebrations hero to-day. Sir James Carroll will leave Wellington to-morrow on ail extended tour of the South Island. Ho will spend Saturday and Sunday in Christchurch, Monday at'Temuka, Tuesday at Timaru, and will reach Duncdin on the night of Juno 20. Ho leaves for Gore on the following day, going thence to Riverton. Ho proposes to speak in Duncdin 011 his return from the south. The Hon. T. Mackenzie returned from l'almerston North yesterday, and went on to Christchurch. The Hon. J. A. Millar has beon obliged to cancel his intended trip to the south, as he is confined to his house with an inflamed knee. Mr. John Walters, an old Wellington resident, died at his residence, Jackson Street, Petone, on Tuesday, aged 73 years. He was at one timo New Ztaland representative for Messrs. At a meeting of the Napier Borough Council last night a letter was read from Captain M. N. Bower, asking to be relieved of his duties of town <derk. His resignation was accepted with regret, and' Mr. M. Murrav, assistant town clcrk, was appointed to the vacancy. Captain Bower retains the treasurerslnp at an'increased salary.—Press Association.
