Christchiirqh, June 20. There have been a number of fairly large lines of wheat in store on offer, but there ' is'difficulty in effecting'sales, as buyers are ml prepared to give more than, an equivalent of 3s.' 2d. and 3s. 3d. at country stations.. There is-no speculative clement in the market,'and what few, purchases are bciilg made, either by millers or 'merchants, arc only for the purpose of keeping up nominal stocks. Oats are reported to be rather firmer though, at prices asked by growers, it is impossible to do any business with other centres. Farmers are selling "to one another at h'i?herpricos!'than merchants are' able''to give, and, consequently., little groin finds its way towards the market, excont for local consumpion. There is a considerable quantity of chafT o)i ofTer, but sales with the north are difficult to effect in view of cheaper supplies from Australia. The potato .market is still quiet, and until the supplies that have recently gone forward, and the northern markets 'are shortened. thcr.e. does not appear to be any prospect of improvement; Buyers are ' indifferent about making purchases at present, but, for delivery in July, 70s. at country stations is being offered. Onions 'arc now gettiuc shorter in simply, and the price has firmed somewhat. They are now 45s.'to 50s. at country'stations.
