THE SOUTH ISLAND DAIRIES'

ASSOCIATION MEET. (Dy Telegraph-Tress Association.) Duncdin, Juno 16. The annual meeting of the South Island Dairy Association was held to-day, jut. John Gray, of Mataura, presiding. Tho bab in e-shei-t showed that tho revenue for the year was =£907 19s. 3d., and the expenditure .£"4.0 9s. 2d., leaving a credit balance of .£167 10s. Id. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the chairman said that the auction sale proposal had been tried,' but onlv four factories had responded. There had been a meeting in Invcrcargill, but the figures were so far apart, and so high, that there was no chance of doing business. A fair number of tho factories stuck to the agents, but there were not sufficient to give any control of the market. Regarding the proposal to revise the appointment of agents in London, ho said that, for some time past, tho directors had intended to look into the position, and they would do so. • Ho urged the concentration of nrodiicn at the New Zealand end. which,"he believed, would be a very good thing for the factories. The dairy industry was a very large one, and he believed that, eventually, it would pass the mutton industry.

The motion to adopt the report was seconded by Mr. Hunter (Edeudale), and carried.

It was decided that the board of management be requested to take the necessary steps to incorporate in the irticles of association a clause to the effect that the entire cheese output of factories of all members bo handled exclusively by tho association.

It was also resolved that the committee revise the appointment of agents in London, and make a reselection.

Tho mover, Mr. Campbell, of Wyndham) =nid that one reason why some factories did not sell through the association was that they were not satisfied with the agents.

Mr. I.umsden (Drnmmond) said that tin committee intended to revise the list, am might appoint eight or ten agents in Lou don.

The question of holding rales by auction was left in the hands of tlio executive. It was decided to urzo on the Minister for Agriculture the necessity for legislation to 'prevent tho snle of diseased stock as dairy stock. Tho mover of this motion, s»id that he referred specially to cows affected by such,disens°s as contniious mammitis, and contagious abortion. . The retiring directors (Messrs. Hunter, Bolt, and Parker) were re-elected.
