Following a thunderstorm a huge wave broko over tho sea-front at Trieste, tho great port on tho Adriatic. Tho wharves were swamped and the railway and tram lines torn up. Eight of the Austrian Lloyd Company's boats broke adrift from their moorings. Tho damage is estimated at .£1,000,000. It is estimated that fully a hundred persons, many of them fishermen, have perished.
