Kiehardton) were empowered to takn any steps necessary lo put a period to the delay whicli lias occurred as a result of tho non-arrival of "ears" required to complete the overhead equipment of tho lino, Mr. Kichardson staled yesterday alter, noon that it had proved impossible to get any news of tho missing "ears." Endcnliy tiio wipplying company at Homo had not duplicated tho order for the material as they had been instructed to do, through their agent in Wellington, when it became known that tho iirst set'of "cars" ordered had been lost on (ho Aotea. These "ears," Mr. Kichardson stated, having been stowed on the Aotea as ballast, wero probably still aboard (ho wreck of I hat vessel. As thcro had seemed no hope of getting any definite news of tho missing material, continued tho eu. gineer, an order had been placed localiy lor the necessary "ears'' to complete tho Wadestowu extension lino as far as I'ilt Street. Tho matter was taken up first thing yesterday by tho deputy-Mayor and the Electrical Engineer, with tho result that the "ears" arc already in proces9 of manufacture. Tho engineer hopes lo get one-half of (ho "earn" by Wednesday next, and tho balance before tho end of tho week. The work of placing the "ears" in position will proceed simultaneously with their manufacture, and Mr. Kichardson estimates that tho lino will bo ready for inspection in the early part of the week after next.

Tho order for tho "ears" is being executed by Messrs. P. It. Baillie mm Co., and it is a condition of the contract (hat tlio work of making (hem shall bo distributed amongst a number of firms so that it may bo done- with tho utmost possiblo expedition.
