LACROSSE.
(By Third Man.) . Kelburne and Columbia. Last Saturday, at Duppa Street Reseive, Kclburiio met Columbia, ami a good game resulted—probably the best game of the season. Although tho final score stood 9 goals to 2 in favour of Kelburne, . the game right through, was evenly and keenly contested, and it was not until tho latter part of the third quarter, when tho light was getting bad, that Kelburne got anything like a safe lead. Tho Blues thoroughly deserved their win, and it is difficult, to single out. anyone of their number for special mention. Every man did his best, and did it well. Captain Meyer and his lieutenant—Proud —deserve praise for tho excellent showing of their men. On the other hand, many of the Columbia men appear to lack condition, and are in need of more stick practice. When the new players have attained the same proficiency as tho team that beat them on Saturday last, they will put up some interesting fights for the Proud Cup. Capitol and Wellington. The Wellington v. Capitol contest at the Basin Reserve was won by the latter rather easily by 12 goals to 1. In tho first quarter tho game was evenly contested, but, after that, form evidently began to tell is tale on tho Reds, who faded away to nothing. It is gratifying to see tho AVellington men mustering in full strength, and, with such men as Ryder, Davis, Carver, and Lee, one feels that they are bound to do much better later on in the season. Some of the Capitol men, notably Hubbard and J. Rcnkiu, showed improved form. The Representative Team. Tho representative team selected by Mr. A. C. Jantke to play against Auckland on the Basin Reserve on Coronation Day, is certainly a strong combination. 1 desire to congratulate the selector upon the manner in which ho has carried out his work, and, whilst there may ho sundry littlo heart-burnings in tho "breasts of somo who thought that they had merited a place in the "twelve," it'must be conceded that the team is thoroughly representative of Wellington's strength. Defensively it is strong. Eeg in goal should prove a distinct advance unon Martin of last year in that he is more skilled with tho stick, and has a better all-round knowledgo of the game. Moran, OLeary, and Meyer liavo each represented AVellington before. Jordan and King (wings) arc tho two new men on the defence, and the play of each of these during tho present season has qualified him for representative honours. King is a neat "stick" man a solid "checker," and a determined and clever defence man . right through. Jordan, though young, is vigorous and useful. Tie has proved himself a difficult man to pass, and is always a hard player. Eenkiu, at centre, was the only selection that could have boon made. The "homes" e.ro all well-tried players. They are Grant, Montgomery, and Ryder, and they should make an effective attacking combination. The wingatlacks (Fama and I.eydon) are clubmates. They are both fast and dashing players, just tho type for wing-attack play. Their speed and skill with the crosso should prove of great value to tho "homes." To-day, at the Basin Reserve, tho rerenresentativo team will play against the following fourteen players:—Bowen, Penlington, Proud, Renkin. Carver, Jones Bragge, Ilutton, Stnirman, Davis, Lnugh. nan, Lee, Hubbard, and Forbes. Emergencies: Seddon and Canty.
