MISSING "EARS.
WANTED TO COMPLETE ' WADESTOWN TRAMWAYS. ' One of two City' Councillors questioned ths City Electrical Engineer (Mr. &.'Richardson) last evening, over thri "delayed completion of the Wadestown .tramway. Councillor Atkinson opened the ball by inquiring as to the cause of the delay in completing the line. Further, could tho engineer say when tho tramway would be in. working order? Mr. Richardson stated that the permanent way had been completed as far.as Pitt Street. The overhead wire bad been loosely fastened up, but could not be fixed in position until tho Department got "ears" with which to fasten the wire to the standards. Continuing, Sir. Richai'dpon explained the circumstances under which the missing material was lost in tho Aotea, near Cape Town, on January 22. Tho Department had instructed its agents to ■ duplicate tho order, and had also intimated that it would take delivery of • any • part of the material that might bo salvaged from 'the wreck of tho Aotea. At the present time the Department could not get any information as to whether the order ,hafl ! been, dup'li:ate(l or not. . Neither'had. it been possible to find out whero was that had been salvaged from; the Aotea. Mr. Richardson stated that he expected :o learn within two or three Jays whether :ho last-mentioned material was likely to irrivo at an early date. >,'- If the material did not arrive shortly, Mr. Richardson continued, the best course ivould bo to havo the "ears".made local'y. They would cost probably between £80 and .£IOO. No money would be lost. iy this duplication. It' was. merely a matter of putting monoy into stores. Replying to further rjuestions, Mr. Richardson stated that a number of ;ables had passed between-tho supplying irm and its'local agent j, but it seomed .mpossiblo to get-ihe'desired information is to the whereabouts of the material. After sonie further questions and-«x-ilanation's; tho Depiity-Mayor (Councillor smith) said that the engineer -expected-to receivo news of tho matorial on the folowing morning. The suggest that, if this news did hot arrive, is anticipated,'the engineer should cable nmself. - Eventually the matter was left in tho lands of the Deputy-Mayor, and engineer, ivhp wero given,power to, act.' .
