Four landowners from Bruco Avenue, Brooklyn, with the Rev. A. Dewdney as spokesman, waited on tho City Council last night to request that the construction of that street should bo carried out. Mr. Dewdney said that tho landowners were willing to pay their contributions for this purpose under tho Wellington City Streets Empowering Act, 1909. He handed in a petition to this effect, and mentioned that Bruco Avenue was o»e of the oldest streets in Brooklyn. Tho matter was referred to a committee. A number of grocers are petitioning the City Council agsinst the proposed closing of nil grocers' shops in tho city at 6 p.m. The matter was referred to at the council meeting lust night when Councillor ShirtclifTe remarked that it was of great importance to those directly affected. The Town Clerk explained tho procedure as to such petitions, and said that one difficulty would be to define "grocers," as their trade was overlapped by the Chinese greengrocers, and also by ironmongers.
