BIBLE LESSONS IN SCHOOLS.
-9 ACTION BY SECULAR. EDUCATION LEAGUE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Timaru, Juno 13. A deputation from tho local branch ot tho Secular Education League waited on the Board of Education to protest against certain proceedings of the Ministers' Association and the authorities of the Main School in connection with Bible lessons introduced in the town schools last month. Complaints are that the school staff is not neutral. The usual hour of assembly was 9 a.m., but the board agreed that it should be 9.30 a.m., on Bible lesson days. The deputation stated that the headmaster "assembled" school in the ordinary way at 9 a.m., and acting as headmaster had assisted the ministers otherwise, one way by circularising parents and asking for a note of exemption. The deputation asked for a public notification that, the school "assembles" at '9.30 oti lesson days, that no letter of exemption be required, that leathers bo instructed to take no part in assembling the children for lessons, and generally to remain neutral. The board referred complaints to the committee and headmaster for a reply. .
