SUNDAY TRADE.

e A SYDNEY DEPUTATION. By Teleeraph—Press Association-Oopyriehl (Rec. Juno 13, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, Juno 13. A deputation, representing the Evangelical Council, asked the Acting-Chief Secretary, Mr. Flowers, to-day to enforce the law for the closing of fruit and softdrink shops on Sundays. One speaker suggested that the State ought to go the whole way and stop all trains, trams, and boats on Sundays. Mr. Flowers, in promising that Cabinet ■ would give its consideration to ,the request, said • that he personally favoured the old-fashioned Sunday, but tlie idea of a Puritan Sunday could not, however, bo entertained to-day. The reaction against the making of such a by-law would be so great that there would be no knowing where it would stop. They must be moderate. Ho saw no harm ia providing facilities by which people visiting seaside resorts might obtain reasonable refreshments. A Bill was being prepared to provide that refreshment rooms within proclaimed areas might remain open for limited hours on Sundays.
