* "MABON'S" LEADERSHIP ATTACKED By Telesraph—Press Association-Oopyriehl London, June 12. At a conference of miners' delegates at Cardiff heated references wero made to tho leadership of Mr. W. Abraham ("Mabon"), Labour M.P. for Rhondda. It was resolved to ask the conferencc of tho Miners' Federation in Britain to vote for a national strike for a minimum wage. THE REJECTED LEADER. . A "Pall Mall Gazette" writer says of t'he Right Hon. W. Abraham: It is hard to say which suits him better—his bardic name of "Mabon" or tho patriarchial namo of Abraham. William was born in 1812. He is the son of a pitman, and has seen some stormy times. He was educated at the Carnarvon National School, tind .worked in the mine himself from the age of ten onwards until he came up finally as a miners' agent for .tho Loughat district This was in 1873, when he was thirty-one, and he has fought tooth and nail for the miners' cause ever since. Two years later he became, and still is, vic-e-prosidoiit of the Monmouthshire and South Wales Sliding Scale Committee, which means moro than it sounds. Ho is also president of the South Wales Miners' Federation. It was in 1885 that he entered the House as member for the Rhondda Valley, and he has been returned unopposed thrico since. Ho is a magistrate and a director of tho London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Assurance Company, and has done good service as a member of tho Royal Commissions on Labour and that on Mining Royalties. Has always been a big figure at Eisteddfodan (henco his bardic name), I can sing excellently well upon occasions, 1 and has a Welshman's passion for music. ' He has told the House of Commons that ■ although ho addresses it in English, he ; still thinks in Welsh.
