Nelson, June 12. The Supreme Court opened to-day before Mr. Justice Chapman. There was only one criminal case, in which a man named Edwin Arnold was charged with having unlawful knowledge of an imbecile woman. Accuscd was found guilty and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. He was also declared a habitual criminal. In the case of Katherino Cross v. Ivanhoe M'Farlane, bot'li of Motueka—a claim of JilOO for slander—no defence was filed. His Honour gave judgment for plaintiff for ,£75. The civil business includes two libel actions, Mrs. E. N. Richardson v. C J. Hnriey, barrister, and the Nelson "livening Mail." Mr. Jellicoe appears for the plaintiff, and Mr. Herduian for the "Mail." LAUNCH BURNT. Blenheim, June 12. A motor-launch belonging to G. Pilmer au<l F. Nicholls was totally destroyed by lire in the Opawa liiver on Saturday, through a leak in the benzine tank. Tho launch, which w-as valued at .CSOO, was not insured.
