The monthly sitting of the Upper Hutt Court was held yesterday, before Messrs. Lay and Davis, J.P.'s. Thomas I'. Boyd sued William Walker for the sum of.il 13s. 9d., cost of threo and a half drums of ■ carbide, and balance of rent owing. ,£B. Defendant entered a counter-claim of .£lB 25., details of which were:—Shaving and haircutting, .£3; attendance' at billiard-room, at 10s. per week, £10; supplying gas to adjoining'shop, jCt 12s. Mr. Pair,-who appeared for defendant, admitted Boyd's claim. Regarding tho counter-claim counsel contended that defendant had been engaged by Boyd to look after his billiard saloon. The" allegation was denied bv plaintiff. After a lengthy hearing judgment was entered for the full amount claimed, and for £5 10s. on tho counter-claim. Costs were allowed both parties, viz., XI ss. (id. and £1 12s. respectively. Mr. Webb appeared for plaintiff. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in tho following cases:—W. J. Wilkie v. J. W. ITannan, <£8 -Is. 5d., costs ,E1 7s. Gd.; L. G. M'Ghio v. August Khody, .CI, costs ss.
