NOTIFICATION OF CONSUMPTION. By TcieEraph—Press Association—Oopyrisht (Rec. Juno 12, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, Juno 12. A deputation, representing the National Association for the Prevention and Cure of Consumption, to-day asked Mr. Flowers, the Acting-Chief Secretary, to introduce a Bill to make the notification of consumption compulsory, and to give an annual grant of ,£2OOO towards the establishment of anti-tubercular dispensaries and tho dissemination of information about tho disease. Mr. Flowers said he was perfectly in agreement as to the need for taking all precautions to protect healthy lives from contamination, but he was noit convinced oil the question of compulsory notification. He did'not think they were justified in practically ostracising whole families or causing additional suffering to consumptives themselves. Ho favoured every precaution short of what he considered a refinement of cruelty, but not general notification, even though it might bo
tho moans of rapidly stamping out the disease.
