THE LONG PADDOCE AT PORIRUA. Apparently, the ranger employed by the Makara County Council has anything but an easy task to put down the unlawful practice of using the "long paddock" for grazing purposes. At the meeting of tho Makara County Council yesterday, a petition was received from .certain residents who had been afflicted v/ith this "unmitigated nuisance" (as they described it), praying that steps might be taken to, abato it. Councillor S. Bryant explained that the ranger had a<<large nrea .to cover, and had, besides, to circiiinVetLt, "as-best could, certain elusive tactics adopted by the users of. tho "long paddock aforesaid. As an instance it was stated that tho ranker started from Johnsonville by the Napier mail train yesterday mornin» to catch, if he possibly could, certain Ponrua offenders napping. Before he could reach there a wire was dispatched from Wellington warning certain persons to keep their "weather eyes skinned, and see that their stock was safely in. tho paddocks. •
