RUGBY FOOTBALL. THE WELLINGTON UNION MEET. CASES FOR DISCIPLINE. A meeting of the management committoa j of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last nisflit. 'illere were present: Messrs. S. Brown (chairman), J. Burns, ..Sweeney, W. F. E- ■Little, ■ Hardham, W Perry, E. 0. Hales, and \\. U. Talbot (.secretary). . . A deputation t'roifi tho Kilbnmo Ratenavers' Association, consisting ot Messrs. J. A. Hcgginbotham, A. A. George, and J. 3. Clark, waited on the committee, asking for the union's (instance in an endcavour to hasten tho City Council in proceeding with the work of reclaiming land from Evans Bay lor recreation grounds. Mr. Heggihbotham explained the scheme at length, and asked tho committee to appoint delegates to accompany a deputation of ratepayers to the City Council on the subject on Ihuji>day next—lt was resolved that the union offer its support to the movement, and that Messrs. Brown and Perry be appointed delegates to accompany the depu'"AUetler was received from' the Melroso Football Club forwarding an application (recommended lor favourable consideration) from John Marshall asking for a. remission of the remaining term of lus two years' disqualification. The player hsul already served twelve months ot tho term. —It was decided to forward the application on to the New Zealand Union, and recommend it for favourable consideration. Tho secretary of the Oriental Football Club advised that the junior match, Oriental v. Old Boys, could not be played last Saturday on account of tho fact that the referee failed to put in an appearanco. A refund of travelling expenses, 10s., was requested.—The refund was approved. Mr. .1. Brown forwarded his resignation as a junior selector of the union, explaining that ho had not the time to devote to the work.—lt was.resolved to write to Mr. Brown, asking liiin to reconsider his decision. ■ ■ Mr. J. Condor, who had acted as referee in the AthletiCrOrienlal match last Saturday week, attended tho meeting and explained that when lie had ordered tho Atnletic player (Murphy) off the field he was perfectly certain that he (Murphy) struck' Perry, of the Oriental team. In answer to a question from a member of the committee, Mr. Condor stated that he knew, of no "unwritten law" among referees to tho effect that there was - a medal for the first man who put Murphy off.—lt was decided to caution Murnhy for the offence. An amendment by Sir. Hardham that Murphy bo disqualified until the end of the season was not. seconded. Mr. R. Fordyce, referee in the Old BoysPoneke senior match, reported having ordered an Old Boys' player (Freyberg) oIT the field for striking an opponent. Mr. Fordyce attended and stated that ho was confident that striking took place. A letter was received from the player, denying the striking.—lt 'was decided that as the player had now left tho district, he be let oft' with a caution. Mr. Hardham was tho only member who 'voted against tho motion. Mr. H. E. Card, referee in the HuttI'etone fifth-class match, played last Saturday, reported having ordered a Hutt player, named M'Kain, oft' tho field for striking an opponent.—M'Kain did not attend the meeting, and it was decided to suspend him until such time as he did attend. It was decided to start senior matohes at Athletic Park at 2.15 p.m. from Saturday next. WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL. . Tramways defeated Athletic by 12 points to 6at Athletic Park yesterday. For tho winners tries were obtained by Bramley (2), Clark, and Alexander. Sandani kicked a goal for Athletic, and F. Martin scored a try. Athletic played with only twelve men, and put up a' plucky fight against odds. It was, however, a very poor exhibition of Rugby, tho only incident of tho game being the neat bit of passing by the Tramway backs which culminated in Alexander scoring. Mr.'G. Howe was the referee.
