POLITICAL ADDRESS.
MR. M'LAREN AT JOHNSONVILLE. Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P., delivered a political address to the electors of Johnsonville, in the Parish Hall, last evening. Mr. F. T. Moore presided. An addrws in support of the platform and principles advanced by Mr. M'Laren was also delivered by Mr. llindmarsh. The latter said that he was not a candidate for Parliamentary honours, but was on the platform simply with a view to helping Mr. M'Laren. lie then went on to deal with the objects'of the Labour party, and the good which would accrue if its representatives were returned. Opening his address, Mr. M'Laren criticised tin- manner in which present, legislation was administered, fmi ' said that it was the poiicy of the Labour party to maintain upon our Statute-book all progressive legislation that had already been c-nacted, and further to insist upon its sympathetic and proper administration. He considered that the Upper Jlouso should be elected by the people. ITe traced the policy of the Liberal Government since the maritime strike in 1S!)0, and said that, at one time, it was called the Liberal Labour party, but that as it grew in power it dropped (Ik- word "Labour." That a Labour pnrly was capable of managing a country's "affairs was proved by the success of I lie Labour party, in Australia. Having answered several questions, Mr, M'Laren was accorded a unanimous vote iif thanks.
