— 1 : — MOTION FOR INQUIRY LAPSES. By Tdeeraph—Press Association-Copyrieht Sydney, June 7. In tho Legislative Assembly a motion for tho appointment of a Select Committee to inquire into the operations and powers of the Australian Jockey Club lapsed. The opponents of the motion" claimed that it was a fishing inquiry with tho object of annoying the club, which had done so much'to raise the standard of racing, and which noiv spent forty thousand pounds a year in prize money.
