TARANAKI WINTER SHOW.

OPENED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. IBy Telecraph.—Press Association.) ' New Plymouth, June 7. m second annual winter show of the laranaki Agricultural Society was opened here to-day, and marks a vast advance on ■•lie first effort, which was conducted 011 an unambitious scale. The great feature' is tho excellence of'the field and the root crops, which would, the judges say, take a prominent place at any colonial exhibition. Some of these exhibits tile president declared to bo worthy of a place in any shoiv in the kingdom. Thc-re is a great display, too, of garden produce-. _ Noi ; a single poor exhibit is staged in this section. A regrettable feature is the absence of competition for the Shaw,_ Sarill, and Albion Company's and the New Zealand Shipping Company's valuable challenge trophies in' the dairy' produce classes. The Technical and the school exhibits run into a hundred, and so do the cookery and the home industries. The opening, bv the Hon. D. Buddo (Minister for Internal Affairs), was marred somewhat by heavy showers, "but tjie weather has taken up now, and the attendance is largely, in excess of last year. A special feature "of tho show is a district competition in farm products. The show will continue till Saturday night.
