ABATTOIR SLAUGHTERING.
PROPOSED AGREEMENTS. Following on the recent dispute at. the municipal abattoir about Sunday slaughtering, the Wellington Slaughtermens Union, ,on behalf of its members employed at the abattoir, has now filed a claim for a formal agreement covering wages and conditions of work. The claim is.now in the hands of the Conciliation Comnik'sioncr (Mr. P. Halli-y). Following are some details of the agreement prop-osed by the union:— "A week's work shall'not exceed 44 hours. "The working hours shall be between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on each day of the week, excepting Thursday, when 10 hours may be worked if necessary. On Saturday no work shall be done after 4 p.m. "All time worked before and after these hours shall, in computing the hours worked during the week, bo counted as hours worked beyond the' 44. "The minimum rate of wages shall bo ,£3 155. per week for all slaughtermen, ami £1 15s. for assistant slaughtermen. . "Slaughtermen engaged for casual wages shall be paid at the rate of 1G?. per day."
