CORONATION PROCESSION.
. * •ORANGEMEN'S FINAL DECISION. SOCIETY NOT TO TAKE PART. A largely-attended mooting of (]io Di* , trict Loyal Orange Lodge was hold on Monday evening, when considerable discussion took place with regard (o the lodge's part in the Coronation procession. In nn ollicial statement of the conclusions arrived at by the meeting tho lodge states:— "In connection with the Coronation procession trouble created through the attitude of his Worship the Mayor, and as given expression to by tho Town Clerk, (he action of the executive iii calling an emergency meeting dealing with (ho matter, and entering a protest was approved. We ailirm our own conviction that Mr. Palmer was not acting on his own initiative, but directly al the bidding and control of his Worship the Mayor. Any reference to Mr. Valmer applies to him only so far that he was the mouthpiece of Mr. Wilfovd. We regret exceedingly the circumstances that will prevent us taking part, in tho procession. Having carefully analysed the whole position, tho statements and the impression conveyed, we can only conclude the Loyal Orange Institution, will not be officially invited or recognised. "The explanation given by his Worship tho Mayor, in effect that 'thero was no attempt to bar anybody,' does not in any sense meet the case. It is a statement of a kind that will deceive no one, and quite unworthy of the Mayor of Wellington City. Why does ho not make a definite pronouncement that the action of the Town Clerk in sending a letter marked 'urgent,' asking Mr. Drown (o 'call and see him as soon as possible,' without stating (he nature of the business, shows little regard for the time of a business man; and still le.w for the intelligence of the councillors and citizens alike, when they are asked lo believe that there was nothing more at the buck of the interview than merely to inquire if Mr. Frown represented the Protestant Alliance or llw Loyal Orange Institution. This information could have lx-.cn c.-.nveyed ou a halfpenny p<:.-!-canl. "We rejoice in the fact that better conditions prevail in other parts of the Dominion, where the members of (he Loyal Orange Institution have received duo recognition wilh other societies, and it is certain they will i.irry out tho par-1 allotted to them witli credit (o Ihemwlves and the town to which they belong. Much as w<, ri'gret the position created in Wellington, wp have no' ihvirc that the proceedings on Coronation Way should ho in any way marred by nny untoward in?ideiil of "feelings .f ill-will toward any official or peiwns. 'pud wp sincerely Jiope that -as true oidWis and loyal subjects, every Orangeman will he found taking part. Most, if not all, are members of other societies, and -instructions will be issued forthwith for members lo parnfl* with the benefit society, temperance lodgo, or football club to which they happen bo belong."
