UNDER SENTENCE OF DEATH.
' A MAORI PRISONER. . (By Telegraph.-SDecial Correspondent.) . ' Auckland, June 6. The Maori youth Tahi Kaka, who was sentenced to death for the murder of John Freeman, is still lying in the condemned cell at Mount , Eden Gaol under a close guard night and day. His demeanour is now much quieter than it was prior to sentence being passed upon him. He seems to have arrived at something .like a realisation of his terrible position. The result-of the jury's recommendation to mercy will not be known until after the next meeting of Cabinet.
